Three years ago this week…
Dear Friend,
Three years ago this week, Word on Fire launched a revolutionary concept that has led thousands of Catholics to adopt prayer as part of their daily routine: the Liturgy of the Hours monthly subscription.
The Liturgy of the Hours is an ancient, structured way of praying Scripture throughout the day, focusing especially on the Psalms. Also referred to as the Divine Office, this is the highest and most important form of prayer outside of the Mass.
However, many Catholics new to these prayers find it hard to get acclimated. The four-volume series of books require substantial knowledge and training to master the ribbons, page flipping, and prayer selections.
In 2022, and for the first time in history, Word on Fire released a new solution: monthly Liturgy of the Hours booklets. Each booklet contains the full text of Morning, Evening, and Night Prayer for every day of the month. The booklets require no background or training and thus are perfect for beginners. Users simply open to the current day, read, and pray. There are no ribbons, no guesswork, and no complicated page flipping. This has been revolutionary, encouraging many lay people to start this habit of prayer.
As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, we rely on your financial support to continue our mission. In light of our 25th anniversary, will you make a gift to help Word on Fire continue producing new creative ways of evangelizing the culture and calling people to prayer? | MAKE A GIFT | Currently, 30,000 subscribers receive these booklets each month, the vast majority of whom had never before prayed the Liturgy of the Hours. The result has been a staggering renewal around these prayers. Pastors are happy to now have a practical way to lead Vespers in their parish, as called for by Vatican II (Sacrosanctum Concilium 100).
Several Catholic schools now use these booklets to begin each school day with Morning Prayer. Families use these booklets to incorporate the Liturgy of the Hours into their homes. Small groups meet weekly (even daily) to pray with these booklets, all without screens or expensive purchases. These booklets represent the largest initiative to promote the Liturgy of the Hours in centuries. Through them, millions of new prayers have been added to the Church's chorus of praise.
Word on Fire employees at the Chicago and Dallas offices begin the day praying the Liturgy of the Hours together. We bring the intentions of our supporters and join them to our prayers. Will you make an anniversary gift today to support the future of Word on Fire?
God bless you,
The Word on Fire Team
