Healing at Home: Recovery and Resilience for Displaced Israeli Families

Date: Wednesday, March 5, 2025

Time: 9 am PT / 12 pm ET / 7 pm Israel time

As Hezbollah and Hamas launched their relentless assaults on Israel's North and South, respectively, on October 7, 90,000 families suddenly became refugees in their own country.

In response, University of Haifa launched the *Home Within the Heart* program, designed to meet the unique needs of displaced families by redefining the concept of home. Join American Friends of University of Haifa for an insightful discussion with the program's creators, Dr. Yael Mayer and Dr. Yael Enav, who will share their experiences working with over 300 families from the Gaza Envelope, the northern border and beyond.

The program is guided by a fundamental principle: Family serves as the primary protective factor for children's and parents' well being. Even in the face of displacement and trauma, the sense of home can be preserved through the strength of family bonds. To that end, *Home Within the Heart* has provided workshops across the country to help displaced children and their parents cope with trauma and build resilience.

This effort aligns with the University's broader mission to revitalize Israel—particularly the North—as the long-anticipated ceasefire takes effect. The University has launched its most ambitious campaign to date, supporting communities as they return, rebuild, and envision a thriving future in regions heavily destabilized by the conflict, from Haifa to Israel's northern border.

Please join us in welcoming Dr. Mayer and Dr. Enav as they discuss the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead in forging a better future for those affected by the Swords of Iron War.
