Dear Neighbor, I hope you've had the chance to enjoy some sun these past few days! After spending time at home, meeting with community members, local leaders, and constituents, I headed back to Washington, D.C. earlier this week, where we are continuing the work to address the urgent needs of all Coloradans. This past week, we announced two major steps in our work to tackle western wildfires. First, on Wednesday, alongside Governor Polis and Senators Michael Bennet and John Hickenlooper, I announced that the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) will receive $1.9 million in federal funding to enhance wildfire smoke preparedness and protection in communities across the state. Like all of you, I've seen firsthand the real and growing threats associated with wildfires and wildfire smoke. And this funding will help the state of Colorado take action to protect our communities. Also, last Thursday, I led a bipartisan letter calling on the U.S. Small Business Administration to extend their deadlines for disaster loan applications. Narrow time frames between when disaster strikes and when these applications are due are insufficient for those trying to recover. We must expand access to critical federal disaster assistance for households and businesses impacted by natural disasters. Read our letter to the Small Business Administration, signed by over a dozen western lawmakers, HERE. Keep reading to learn more about other exciting updates!

From supporting outdoor recreation to improving water resilience, our office is advancing Colorado's priorities in Congress. These bills were also bipartisan, supported by my U.S. Senate colleagues, and passed with unanimous support.
Of the bills headed to the House Floor, one includes our bipartisan and bicameral bill, the Forest Service Flexible Housing Partnerships Act. This is an important victory for rural and mountain communities in Colorado such as Routt, Eagle, Jackson, Grand and Summit counties that face hurdles to affordable housing. We will keep working to get these bills across the finish line! | Pictured Above: Rep. Neguse touring the Forest Service's Hilltop Lane property in Steamboat Springs. | - Last Friday, I signed on to a letter with my colleagues urging the House to bring a bill to the floor for a vote that prohibits Members of Congress from trading stocks. For years I've led the effort to ensure Members of Congress serve their constituents, not their stock holdings, and I'll continue to do so Read more HERE.
- Every year, our office presents the annual Gloria T. Tanner Congressional Award to a Coloradan who demonstrates a record of leadership and outstanding community service, as Senator Tanner did throughout her distinguished career. This award is unique to the United States and Colorado. If someone comes to mind, I hope you can nominate them by February 12 HERE.
Should you need any assistance from our office, please do not hesitate to reach out.
Please stay safe, stay healthy, and stay hopeful! Sincerely, | | | | Joe Neguse Member of Congress | | | |
