Dear Neighbor, Last week, I cast my final vote for the 118th Congress on a bill that keeps the government up and running and ensures critical services and programs that support the American people are able to remain in place. And with an uptick in natural disasters in Colorado and across our country, I was grateful to see that the bill included disaster aid relief for those affected. In addition to this bill, last week, I was grateful to secure final passage for seven of our bipartisan bills—each of which now head to the President's desk for his signature! The first two of these bills support key drought relief and water data initiatives for Colorado and the American West. As we have seen within the Colorado River Basin and other critical water sources in our state, droughts threaten our water supplies, devastate our crops, and lead to countless other impacts—and I am incredibly proud to see our solutions to address the severe impacts of record-breaking drought enacted into law. In addition, four more of our bills are en route to the Oval Office! These bills will go a long way in preserving Colorado's public lands, strengthening our outdoor recreation economy, helping to address the housing shortage in rural and mountain communities, and stopping invasive species like Zebra Mussels from eroding critical natural water infrastructure. A big win for communities across our great state. I was also grateful to have the full support of my colleagues in passing the Disaster Management Costs Modernization Act, through the U.S. House of Representatives. Our state has faced record-breaking and deadly natural disasters, including wildfires, flash floods, and droughts. This bill would strengthen our efforts to prepare for and mitigate the impacts of future disasters in Colorado and across our country. Put plainly, it will cut red tape and ultimately enhance our communities' ability to respond to destructive wildfires. Watch my speech on the House Floor supporting this legislation HERE. As folks travel for the holidays, I want to wish everyone a safe and warm journey to your destinations. Keep reading for some more exciting updates! | Recently, it was a privilege to host the annual 2nd Congressional District Service Awards to honor and recognize our educators, students, volunteers, first responders, and many others across the Western Slope and the Front Range who keep Colorado moving forward! The spirit of our communities is built from the middle out, thanks in no small part to the hard-working, good-natured individuals who dedicate much of their lives to protecting, growing, and cultivating health and happiness for our neighbors and friends. I consider myself incredibly lucky to represent them in the House of Representatives and even more so to be able to present them with the recognition they so greatly deserve. | Pictured (Left): Congressman Neguse with First Responder(s) of the Year, Sheriff Curtis Johnson and John Feyen.
