Dear Neighbor, Happy New Year! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season and are enjoying the first few weeks of the new year. It has been wonderful connecting with so many community members the past few weeks as we recommit ourselves to the important work ahead. And after spending much-needed time connecting with fellow Coloradans, I am feeling recharged and ready to keep fighting to deliver for our great state. In that same vein, last week I made my way back to Washington, D.C. to kick off the first legislative session of 2024 — but not before announcing some exciting news for Coloradans: TABOR refund checks will remain tax-free this filing season! This important news will put money back in the pockets of folks across our state. Learn more HERE. For over a year, Senator Michael Bennet and I have been leading the effort to urge the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to adhere to 30-years of precedent and not tax TABOR payments. I am excited to see the IRS heed our calls and will keep working to ensure these payments continue not to be treated as taxable income for the years to come. Keep reading to learn more about some other exciting updates and my recent work for Colorado's 2nd.

During this event, I spoke with constituents about everything from wildfire management and mitigation to efforts being made in Congress to lower costs for working families. A big thank you to all those who joined! | Pictured Above: Rep. Joe Neguse speaks with community members during a town hall in Estes Park. | Two years after the Marshall Fire devastated neighborhoods throughout our community, I was honored to join neighbors from Louisville, Superior, and Boulder County to reflect on the incredible spirit of resiliency and kindness showcased by our neighbors in the aftermath of disaster. We recommitted to continuing our work to rebuild our community with the understanding that we are stronger together. | I visited the new Lyons Emergency Assistance Fund (LEAF) center in Lyons with Mayor Hollie Rogin to see its renovation progress. By no longer requiring applicants to disclose certain untaxed items, including veterans' non-educational benefits, we are helping make financial aid more accessible! Read more here.
- I was proud to announce, along with Senators John Hickenlooper and Michael Bennet, that Boulder County and Colorado State University will receive $13.8 million in Bipartisan Infrastructure Law funding for electric vehicle chargers. Read more here.
- Following December's USPS OIG report highlighting ongoing mail service delays in Colorado's mountain communities, I joined Rep. Brittany Pettersen and Senators Bennet and Hickenlooper in a letter to the Postmaster General imploring immediate action to implement much-needed reforms. Read the letter here.
- I was pleased to announce the winners of Colorado's 2nd Congressional District's 2023 App Challenge. I continue to be very inspired by their innovation and creativity. Learn more about this year's winners and their projects here.
