Dear Neighbor,

I was excited to spend the past week in Colorado, connecting with countless community members from across the 2nd District. Since first being elected to Congress, I've always believed that the best way to represent the interests of our state is by leading locally and listening first. So, having the opportunity to hear from you all this past week has been vital to my work in Washington!

Over the weekend, I had the opportunity to travel throughout Grand County, including visiting with the dedicated folks at the National Sports Center for the Disabled in Winter Park, meeting with local leaders, county officials and law enforcement in Fraser, and hosting a terrific town hall in Granby, where we heard from many constituents about the issues they care most about.

After connecting with our communities, I am excited by our progress and inspired to continue working to ensure a better future for families across the state. Please know that I remain committed to putting people over politics and delivering for Colorado, from building on the historic progress we've made to lower healthcare costs and repair our roads and bridges to securing critical investments for our state.

CONFRONTING WILDFIRES ACROSS THE WEST

Colorado has experienced numerous devastating wildfires over the past several years, including the East Troublesome, Cameron Peak, and Marshall Fires, which impacted communities across our district. In the years since these disasters, we've been working tirelessly to reduce risk to our communities and invest in wildfire preparedness and mitigation. On that note, we have two important updates to share with you that directly relate to the same.

First, as Co-Chair of the Bipartisan Wildfire Caucus, I was excited to announce that we recently secured more than $35 million to support wildfire mitigation and preparedness efforts across Colorado's 2nd District. Thanks to the Inflation Reduction Act and Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, this funding will empower the USDA Forest Service's Wildfire Crisis Strategy to reduce risk to communities, critical infrastructure and natural resources from the nation's ongoing wildfire crisis.

Secondly, as Ranking Member of the U.S. House Subcommittee on Federal Lands, last week I led a bipartisan coalition of western lawmakers in a letter to the U.S. Forest Service and the National Park Service requesting they take immediate action to improve housing conditions for federal firefighters. Wildland firefighters sacrifice everything to protect our communities and endure exceptionally difficult work conditions. We must do more for them.

COLORADO FRONT RANGE PASSENGER RAIL

Last week, I led my colleagues in a letter to the House Committee on Appropriations requesting they fully fund passenger rail programs made possible by the historic Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. If delivered, the Colorado Front Range Passenger Rail Project would become a reality! This project would connect cities from Fort Collins to Pueblo, with intermediate stops in Boulder, Longmont, and Loveland — serving as a transportation "spine" along the Front Range.

What does the project mean for our district? Our communities would be more connected, more efficient transit and mobility, and the opportunity for local economies to grow.

WHAT ELSE HAVE WE BEEN WORKING ON?

Last week, we celebrated the formal establishment of the Amache National Historic Site—which was designated as part of the National Park System in 2022 after our successful efforts in Congress. The community advocates, survivors, and descendants we worked with to secure this designation view Amache as a place of reflection, remembrance, and healing. It is our intention to honor their wishes and to continue to tell their stories. Learn more about this effort HERE.
