I think it is safe to say by now, that Lodi is officially one of the Best California Wine Regions—period. It is known for producing some of the greatest Zinfandel wines in the world, and typically at tremendous value pricing. And in a lineup of close to 100 wines, this one stood out head and shoulders above the pack!
The secret to producing great wines in this region is creating wines that have balance. Lodi is hot, which is fabulous to bring out the concentration in the grapes. But without the proper vineyard care and winemaking processes, the acidity can be low creating high-alcohol, flabby wines. But not with this stunning Old Vine Zin, that hails from the highly accoladed 2015 Vintage, rated as high as 97 Points! It is loaded with well developed, yet juicy and jammy, bramble fruit, graham cracker spice and just a hint of those sweet tobacco and forest floor notes.
And at this price for Under $14 a Bottle by the Case, it is going to make a serious run at our Value Red Wine of the Year!!
